QUIET WATERS MINISTRIES

                                                         QUIET WATERS MINISTRIES

Quiet Waters is a ministry to pastors.  I have been pleased to serve as a board member for the past three years.  Dr. Harold Seerveld, a retired obstetrician and gynecologist, is president of the Board and has also made his home in Cherry Hills, Colorado, available as a retreat home for the ministry.  He and his wife, Sally, serve as host and hostess to pastors who need some time away from their ministry.  The pastor typically come with his wife.  Confidentiality is critical to the ministry, so the Christian counselors are the only members of Quiet Waters who learn about the  presenting problems.  The home is indeed a lovely retreat, located beside Cherry Hills Golf course in a wooded area that seems removed from the surrounding city.
Typically, couples stay two weeks for one to one counceling, study and restoration.  We have had many testimonials from participants in the program, which are gratifying to all of us.  Frequently pastors present with problems that threaten their ministires.  They usually leave feeling restored and ready to go back and cope with their problems.
Lorna and I have a very privilaged role in Quiet Waters.  We have volunteered to serve as the greeters for clients when they arrive at Denver International Airport.  We have gained an appreciation for what fine people we are serving.
Pastors are under enormous pressure, both from their work and from the world.  Quiet Waters is here to provide a safe retreat and excellent counceling when they are at risk of being overwhelmed.  We are constatntly reminded of how troubles impact not only the pastor, but his family and his congregation.  Therefore, every pastor who is restored passes the blessing on to them.
When I was in private medical practice I cared for many pastors and their families, and came to realize the stress the live under.  My wife, Lorna, and I are blessed to be able to make some contribution to their restoration.

QUIET WATERS MINISTRIES
QUIET WATERS MINISTRIES provides a safe haven for pastors and their spouses at a secluded retreat in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Clients are typically pastors and their spouses, although we have had other church workers and missionaries, also. An excellent staff of Chirsitian councilors provide one to one couceling with the couple. A typical length of stay is two weeks, although some clients have stayed only one week because of time constraonts. We have had many fine testamonials from participants, but confidentiality is paramount.
Lorna and I have been privilaged to serve as greeter to the arriving couples at Denver International Airport. After they pick up a rental car, we accompany each member to the retreat home. We do this to ease the stress of getting around in a strange city, but it gives us the great privilage of meeting our clients.
Our other roles in Quiet Waters are largely related to fundraising.  Currently, the big effort is preparing for our annual fund raising dinner and silent auction.  They will be held on April 19th, 2007 at the Denver Tech Center Marriott Hotel. The silent auction begins at 5:30.  In addition to helping prepare for the event, Lorna is creating a large stained glass window for the silent auction.
We find this a blessed ministry, which has enhanced our post-retiremnt lives enormously.
